About Catholic House accommodations:

 

The Catholic House is open to everyone.  We offer an adults-only (18+) environment with five two-person guest rooms plus clergy rooms, each with a private bath and air conditioning. Each guest room has two single beds, a tray table, chair, vanity, and wardrobe. Bedding and a set of towels are provided. 

 

The Guest Kitchen on the terrace level is designed for light cooking, with a dorm-size refrigerator and storage cabinet for each guest room. Appliances such as a stove, microwave, toaster, and coffee maker are included, as well as tableware and cooking utensils.

 

There are no televisions or telephones in guest rooms. There is a television in the Guest Kitchen and a telephone with an answering machine (716/237-7105) in the office where guests may receive incoming calls. WIFI is available throughout the house and porches.

 

Because of the growing demand for the limited accommodations available at CH, the Chautauqua Catholic Community has established a "lottery system" to assure equitable opportunities for room arrangements.

 

Catholic House Rules:

 

• The CH is not handicap accessible. There are stairs and handrails at every entry level.

• No smoking, vaping, or any tobacco use is allowed in any guest room, common rooms/areas, porch, or property.

• No more than two people may share a room.

• All guests must abide by the prevailing COVID Policy of the Chautauqua Institution and CH.

• Pets are not permitted.

• Consumption of alcoholic beverages is permitted in CH common areas but no bottles are allowed on the porch or lawn.

• Saturday arrival is between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm. Early arrivals may not have access to their appointed room.

• All guests must depart CH no later than 9:30 am Saturday morning.

• There is a porter service available at designated hours during arrival and departure on Saturday. If you arrive outside these hours or depart earlier, you must be able to carry your luggage and belongings to/from your room.

• If you will need to arrive after 5:00 pm on Saturday, please inform the hosts at CH by calling (716) 237-7105.

• If you desire a key to your room, a $50.00 cash deposit is required and refunded upon the return of the key.

• You are responsible for cleaning any mess created in any common areas and replacing any cooking or eating utensils used. 

• There will be a meeting on Sunday, usually late afternoon, for guests to meet one another and for the Host Couple to review our procedures and answer questions.  You are encouraged to attend and are responsible for any House information shared.

• Guests will be liable for any damages in the rooms, common areas, and porch areas.

• Be considerate of our other guests and neighbors and reduce noise levels by 10:00 pm on the porch and in the rooms. Chautauqua Institution requests that after midnight all is quiet.

• November 15   Room application deadline

• December 31   All applicants will be notified by December 31 of their status. 

• January 31   First payment/deposit of $300.00 due*

• March 15  Final payment of room fee due*

• *NOTE:  Failure to provide timely deposit will result in forfeiture of the room reservation. This date will be strictly adhered to.

• Saturday of Check-In from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm**

• Saturday Check out from 7:30 am to 9:30 am

• **NOTE: No check in before 3:00 pm

 

Applying for a Room:

• The 2024 room rate is $675 per week or $775 for Room #6 with a second-floor porch. 

• All rooms are assigned by Lottery (not first come, first served) for a one-week stay.

• Application information is available on our website chautauquacatholics.org.

• Application is made exclusively online through our website at www.chautauquacatholics.org between October 15 and November 15 each year.

• Please fill out the online application form completely and accurately. Incomplete information may result in the application not being accepted.

• Only one (1) application per household or per person per year is accepted. (You may NOT enter the lottery both as a primary applicant AND as a roommate.)

• Applicants who did not stay at Catholic House during the prior year will be given preference.  If additional space remains, other applicants will be included in the lottery for the remaining rooms.

• All applications must be received online no later than November 15.

• The online system will be inactive after November 15.

• All applicants will be notified by email no later than December 15 of their status.

• Rooms may not be re-assigned, substituted, or traded.

• Payment schedule is to be strictly followed. PayPal (3% will be added to the total) and checks are accepted.  Failure to pay timely will result in cancellation of the room request and/or $100.00 deducted from the deposit or full payment.

• A weekly Chautauqua Institution Gate Pass, parking, and food are NOT included in the room rate.  Gate pass and parking can be purchased at chq.org. 

• Cancellation of your reservation after final payment is made will result in forfeiture of your full payment.  If the room is successfully reassigned, a $100.00 administrative fee will be deducted from the refund (total payment less $100.00).

• If you are not successful, you will be placed on a waiting list and contacted should an opening arise.
