1. Catholic House Accommodations​

The Catholic House is in the heart of the Chautauqua Institution experience, across from the Amphitheater, on the Brick Walk, and within steps to Bestor Plaza, CVA Galleries, Bratton Playhouse, CHQ Cinema, Hall of Philosophy, Alumni Hall, Hall of Christ, Chapel of the Good Shepherd, and Lake Chautauqua.

Catholic House is open to everyone.  We offer an adult-only (18+) environment with seven two-person guest rooms plus a room for our weekly chaplain and a room for the House host couple, each with an ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower (Room 7 has a private bath across the hall), and individually controlled air conditioning. Most guest rooms have two single beds (Room 4 has a queen bed).  Rooms have a tray table, chair, vanity, and wardrobe. Bedding and towels (Wednesday exchange) are provided. 

 

The Guest Kitchen on the Terrace Level is communal and designed for light cooking. Each guest has use of an individual dorm-size refrigerator, and storage cabinet.  A stove, microwave, toaster, ice machine, coffee and coffee maker are available for common use, as well as tableware and cooking utensils.

 

Free WIFI is available throughout the House and porches. There are no televisions or telephones in guest rooms or throughout the House.

2. Catholic House Policies

​

• All guests must be able to climb stairs.  Catholic House is not handicapped accessible. There is no elevator for general use. If you require the use of a walker, cane, pole, wheelchair, scooter, or other walking assistance, you may be refused admittance, and your stay may be cancelled without refund.  Catholic House can assist you in seeking other Chautauqua Housing.

• Guests must be at least 18 years of age.

• No more than two people may share a room.

• You must be able to handle your own luggage.

• Saturday arrivals are between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm. There is no early access to rooms.

• If you will arrive after 5:00 pm on Saturday, please inform the hosts at Catholic House by calling (716) 237-7105.

• There will be a House meeting on Saturday at 7:00 pm to meet and greet one another, review house procedures and policies, and to answer questions.  You are responsible for all House information shared.

• Pets are not permitted.

• No smoking, vaping, any tobacco, or drug use is allowed in any guest room, common rooms/areas, porch, or property.

• Consumption of alcoholic beverages is permitted in Catholic House common areas but no bottles are allowed on the porch or lawn.

• If you desire a key to your room, a $50.00 cash deposit is required and refunded upon the return of the key.

• The Terrace Level kitchen is communal. You are responsible for cleaning any mess created in any common areas and immediately cleaning and replacing any cooking or eating utensils used.

• Guests will be liable for any damages in the rooms, common areas, and porch areas.

• Be considerate of our other guests and neighbors and reduce noise levels by 10:00 pm on the porch and in the rooms. Chautauqua Institution requests that after midnight all is quiet.

• All guests must vacate Catholic House no later than 9:30 am Saturday morning.

3. Important Dates and Information​

​

October 15, 2025 Booking opens

• Reservations are for seven (7) nights only, from Saturday to Saturday, during the Chautauqua Institution Summer Assembly. Each week begins and ends on Saturday.  All stays at Catholic House follow that format. You cannot book for less than seven nights.

• Catholic House only operates during the nine (9) week Chautauqua Institution Summer Assembly.

• You can only book one week per person/couple/guest per season, and you cannot book for a shorter period.

• Visit 2026.chq.org and scroll to 2026 Season to see Chautauqua Institution's schedule and dates (example June 27 - July 4, 2026 is the information you will need to book for Week One).

• Decide the following prior to booking: the dates (month, day, year) for your desired reservation (not the CHQ week), and your choice of room (see below). It is advisable to have a back up plan. Full credit card payment is required to confirm a reservation.

4. Rates and Booking

2026 ROOM RATE

         $780.00 USD per week (seven night stay) for Terrace Level Rooms 1, 2, 3, 4, and Second Level Room 5. All rooms have twin beds, except Room 4 which has a queen bed. 

         $910.00 USD for Second Level Rooms 6 and 7 with semi-private porches.  Room 7 has a private bath across the hall.

MasterCard and Visa are the only accepted credit cards.​

 

Note: this is not a lottery system as in the past.

​Only one (1) application per household or per person per year is accepted. (You may NOT apply as a primary applicant AND as a roommate.)​

​

Reservation and full payment are made exclusively online.

​

When you enter the booking site, today's day will appear. Scroll through the calendar to the first Saturday you wish to book. Only the rooms available for your chosen week will appear. Email Catholic House if you wish to be put on a wait list for a specific room and week.

​

Complete the online information completely and accurately. Incomplete information may result in the request not being accepted. First fully booked and paid, first served and reserved.

Rooms may not be re-assigned, substituted, or traded.

​

Full payment by credit card at the time of booking will confirm your reservation. A confirmation email will be sent immediately once full payment has been accepted.

Catholic House has a non-refund policy.

​

If you have reason to cancel, Catholic House will attempt to re-book your room.  If Catholic House is able to reassign your room, you will receive a payment within two (2) weeks of the re-booking. The re-booking payment to you will be calculated as such: your original payment less a $200.00 administrative fee.  There is no refund if the room cannot be re-booked.

A weekly Chautauqua Institution Gate Pass, parking, and food/meals are NOT included in the room rate.  Gate pass and parking can be purchased at chq.org.
